Left Right Game - “CreepyPasta” Review by Josh

Stephen recommended this podcast called Creep Cast. It’s two guys that read horror stories, and while doing so they give their thoughts about what they are reading.  You can find them on YouTube or any other podcast forums.

I will keep this as spoiler free as I can. Until the last page you can see my honest feedback.  It’s a long episode, with two parts for about 5 hours each. But I found myself just inundated in the story. I binge listened to this story for two days and could not put it down. I know I told Stephen at least 10 times how good it was and how crazy it was as well.

Premise of the story:

Players get in their cars and drive, taking the first available left, then the next right, then the next left, and so on, repeating the process indefinitely.

Goal:

The goal is to "wind up somewhere... new" and continue the drive to find a dead end or a specific point in a parallel world.

Characters:

  1. Rob, who is a seasoned paranormal investigator, has played this game multiple times but has never achieved the end.

  2. Alice, who is a reporter, is trying to find her big story.

  3. Blue Jay is also known as Bonnie

  4. Clyde

  5. Eve

  6. Lilith

  7. Apollo

  8. Ace

Rob has a set of rules that must be followed by the book (he doesn’t know what will happen if they don’t)

In this story you see paranormal things happening along the root, alternate dimension, maybe, ghost towns, creepy monsters, hitchhikers, the whole nine yards. The adventure is an absolutely amazing story of perseverance through fear and the unknown.

During the 10 hours you hear the story of these characters meeting tribulations that only the strong would be able to fathom. Evaporating things, people not seen but only by a few, wrecked cars on the side of the roads, and hitchhikers.

No truth to be told throughout the story until the absolute end. Even at the end of the story you find yourself wondering why those things happened, why they can keep driving with no gas being used, barely having to eat, barely having to drink.

Spoilers:

Throughout the story there are a series of questions I was trying to answer.

  • Question 1: Does it matter where you start?

    • Answer: No, you just start making the turns until you cross over into another dimension.

  • Question 2: Why would someone play this game?

    • Answer: The pure curiosity of wanting to reach the end.

  • Question 3: Why does Rob keep playing the game

    • Answer: He is trying to find the end of his story which you find at the end is the wife he has been trying to find for years. She disappeared in the void, and no one really knew what or why she was gone.

  • Question 4: What led Rob to start this game?

    • Answer: In the Akihabara Forest, also known as Suicide Forest, he ran into an unknown entity which you find later is probably Alice. But years before she was born.

  • Question: What is at the end of the road?

    • Answer: I will not spoil this because I think it is the main driver for the story.

I could continue with so many more questions but in my honest opinion I don’t think I could give enough justice to this story. It had so many turning points and so many things that you need to come up with on your own while reading it. Are people evil in the story or are they just driven to madness?

I STRONGLY recommend this podcast, and I just wanted to write a short bit about the impact it made on me. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, and I hope you love it as much as I did!
