Stephen’s guide to 2026 Horror Movies
Horror fans, rejoice — 2026 is shaping up to be one of the strongest years for the genre in recent memory! From atmospheric supernatural tales to bloody creature-features and high‑stakes franchise sequels, this year’s slate is packed with variety and star power. Below are a few to keep your eyes on!
Iron Lung — Out Today! (January 30, 2026)
Mark Fischbach (Markiplier) makes his feature directorial debut with Iron Lung, an adaptation of the viral sci‑fi horror game. This claustrophobic nightmare follows a convict navigating a decrepit submarine through a blood‑red ocean on a desolate moon — all without windows, relying only on sensors and faith that the hull won’t collapse.
Packed with dread, oppressive atmosphere, and an infamous use of 80,000 liters of fake blood, this one is already a standout early‑year release.
Hokum — May 1, 2026
From Oddity director Damian McCarthy, Hokum stars Adam Scott as a horror novelist visiting a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents’ ashes — only to find the property may be haunted by a witch. With eerie folklore, escalating visions, and McCarthy’s signature tension, Hokum is positioned as one of the year’s most atmospheric releases. [bloody-dis…usting.com], [en.wikipedia.org]
The Mummy — April 17, 2026
Lee Cronin (Evil Dead Rise) reinvents the classic monster mythos in a darker, more brutal take on The Mummy. This standalone reboot follows a family shattered when their daughter disappears in the desert — only to return eight years later in horrifying circumstances. Expect gory twists, family‑centric dread, and Cronin’s signature slow‑burn terror.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come — March 20, 2026
The sequel to one of my favorite thrillers of all time! I saw this movie on a whim with some friends and was absolutely shocked at how much I loved it! The original has become a modern cult classic. Samara Weaving is returning as Grace — now thrust into a deadlier global “game,” hunted by four powerful families while protecting her sister Faith (Kathryn Newton). The film mixes dark humor, splatter, and high stakes as Grace battles to claim the “High Seat of the Council” before her hunters catch up.

Based on Silent Hill 2, director Christophe Gans returns to the franchise with a psychological nightmare steeped in grief, guilt, and eerie atmospherics. WerWulf - TBA
One of if not my most anticipated movies, Robert Egger’s return to horror, this movie just seems like it will fit right into his wheelhouse and with hit after hit (in my opinion) this one is a no brainer top of the list, but have it here bc I dont have alot of info about it yet!
Backrooms - TBA
Involving the original mastermind himself who invented the online community/creepypasta behind the backrooms phenomenon, this movie could be one of the coolest nods to online horror culture we’ve seen, not a ton of info on my end on when this comes out though…
Mortuary Assistant - TBA
Another movie I feel as if it was bred by the love of online./game culture, based on the smash hit game from a few years ago. The teaser on the game hits a lot of the same creepiness of the games, and nods to some of the exact jump scares from the game as well. looking forward to more info about this one!
From ambitious reboots to indie nightmares and blood‑soaked sequels, 2026 is overflowing with horror creativity. Whether you crave psychological terror, supernatural folklore, slashers, or creature horror, there's something waiting in the dark for you this year!
