Ted the Caver - “CreepyPasta” Review by Josh

Yet another Creep Cast / Creepy Pasta recommendation from Steve.

This story is based out of 2001 from a journal created by a caver. The caver’s name was Ted, and it includes his friend B (redacted for identity). Will link the journal below. There are pictures included that give you images of what they saw within the cave.

Ted's Caving Page, with the story of his discovery in a local cave.

Author: Ted Hegemann

Premise:

Prominent cavers who took a break from caving and want to get back into it. They decided to go to the caves near their house, which they are very familiar with. There is a passage that they find which has not been explored by anyone. What they find/ hear in the caves is a thing of nightmares.

Characters:

Ted – Main Character

B - Friend of Main Character

Joe - Another caver in the area who knows the caves.

Story:

The story starts off with Ted and his friend B talking about an adventure they want to embark on again. Caving was something they both loved to do but B had a major accident while caving that caused him to not be able to walk / function correctly. As a result of his injury, they both seemed to stop doing everything caving related and started focusing on just everyday life. Once B recovers enough where he wants to continue, they decide to go to a cave they know well to get back into it. These caves were well known by both the caver community and our author. There are multiple caves within the mountains, but one path has not been traveled by anyone.

The story goes through each of their days on site trying to get the hold big enough to get through so they could begin their journey through this untrekked path. Within a few days they heard something come from the hole, almost sounded like an Aztec death whistle. Enough to make both of our characters stop what they are doing but then nothing follows.

Quite a few weeks later they decided to go back to the site to continue what they started. Finally opening the path enough to get through the small opening. B, still not 100 percent, would not be able to get into the hole, because he cannot move the way needed so that leaves Ted to do the exploring. Ted begins to go into the whole farther to try and see if he can get to the opening of the main cave, but while crawling he smells a horrid stench, one of death and decay, followed by what he described as the same scream as before. Still not away from the danger but wanting to get to the other side he continues to push into the next opening. On arriving on the other side, he can stand up now and look around. In the opening there were a few things he noticed, one a rounded off rock, that seemed to be able to be moved. Stalactites seemed to be moved from where they were initially, but the most prominent thing in the room was a drawing on the wall. The drawing on the wall is what Ted describes as the symbols in Blair Witch Project.

Ted goes back out of the hole to tell B what he found, and the stench came back. They both leave and go back to rest a recuperate and come back with their friend Joe. Joe goes into the cave first, with no knowledge of what B and Ted had heard or seen. Once he got to the other side he quickly egressed and left without saying a word. They decided to ghost their phone calls and even did not answer the door when they came to check on him.

Ted and B go back to the cave after this happens to keep trying to get through the cave to the other sides, but this time something even scarier happens, the stench comes back, the sounds, but no there was something coming through the dark at them. While trying to get out of the hole, while climbing something grabbed onto their rope and began to climb after them. They got out as fast as they could and cut the rope and left with the idea of never coming back again.

Weird stuff then starts to happen to both B and Ted, where they see full body apparitions in their house, footsteps, unexplained noises, the whole nine yards. Ted decides to go on a drive to see the lights of the town, but on arriving he finds Joe is there as well. They both seem to be dealing with the same unexplained events and decide the only way to fix them would be to go back to the cave to get closure. They go back to the cave and the author says he will update the journal with what he finds. That’s where this story ends.

Thoughts and Spoilers:

Something paranormal is in the caves, I thought something like an ancient being or demonic presence. The picture on the wall is almost like people are praying to some type of deity, which again leans me towards something demonic. The rock is moved which is where this thing stores all the bodies of those who come to the caves. That’s why you smell rotting flesh. Whatever this brings cavers there with the intention of never letting them leave. The best part of this story is you never really find out what this thing in the caves is… The story ends with him going back to the cave and not updating the journal ever again.

Final thoughts:

This story was amazing! Caving itself is terrifying in my opinion, small spaces, you could easily get stuck and never get out. Add that with an entity of some type in those caves. This was suspenseful until the end. I strongly recommend you check this out!
