Field Notes Vol. 2 - Imaus Brindwald

The Asylum Revenant

“STOP! I’M NOT SICK, DOCTOR!”
— Last known EVP recording from Black Hollow Asylum

Origin

A respected psychiatrist in the early 1900s, Imaus Brindwald was falsely accused of malpractice and committed to the very institution he helped build—Black Hollow Asylum, WV. Black Hollow was a very remote facility buried deep in the Appalachian wilderness. Subjected to brutal treatments including electroshock, isolation, and failed lobotomy attempts, Imaus died during a desperate escape attempt. But his soul never left.

Now, he haunts not only Black Hollow asylum grounds, but seemingly random sanitariums throughout the East Coast (likely due to him having some knowledge of these sites due to his prior career as a psychiatrist). Little is known about how the revenant chooses which site to haunt, it seems to be related to past events at the site, possibly the more patients a site institutionalized, the higher the chances Imaus may haunt that site, could be tied to the sorrow of those housed there perhaps unjustly? Early in the century, and even to more modern times, people were often institutionalized just for being different. Paranormal sightings that have been reported often mention the apparition trapped in a loop of trauma and rage, he commonly mistakes every visitor for the doctors who tortured him.

Field Report:

Most reports revolve around certain rooms of the asylums, though not just limited to them. below are some classifications of this reported paranormal phenomena and helpful tips from the Official A.P.I.S Field Report:

—————————————————————

Entity Classification:

  • Type: Residual-Intelligent Hybrid

  • Subtype: Poltergeist Revenant

  • Threat Level: Low to High Moderate (dependent on emotional state)

  • This entity seems to be able to be reasoned with according to past investigations IF he believes he’s alive and that you are one of his former colleagues. However, if he is in a state of rage, there is no consoling him and immediate exit of the site is critical.

  • Manifestation Zones:

    • The Shock Ward – Where his mind was fractured.

    • The Garden of Silence – A burial site for forgotten patients.

    • The Observation Tower – Once his sanctuary, now his throne.

    • Underground Tunnels – Echo chambers of his screams.

Signs of Presence (On-Site Indicators):

Imaus appears as a gaunt figure in a torn straightjacket, surgical scars glowing faintly. His eyes are hollow, flickering with static. His voice crackles like a broken radio, often mimicking the voices of loved ones to lure intruders deeper into the asylum. Investigators should look for:

  • EMF spikes near the Shock Ward.

  • Temperature drops in rooms tied to his torture.

  • EVP recordings capturing “I’m not sick!” or distorted screams.

  • Mirror distortions showing Imaus behind you—or replacing your face.

  • Phantom scars appearing on skin after contact.

  • Time slips and lost hours.

  • There has been research done on Imaus’ family heritage and its connection tied very closely to wolves. The visage of a dire wolf’s head is in the center of the Brindwald family crest. Some investigations and encounters recount hearing howls when coming close to a sanitorium, and from afar seeing a partial apparition of wolf just out of the line of sight. There is some speculation this is part of his fractured psyche that is still very much in tact and trying to warn those who may enter a sanitorium he’s haunting, almost as if he is also unaware at which facility he “wakes up” in, some researches think this is just a manifestation of his primal rage for how he was disgraced in life. Other suggestions are this is the spirit of one of his bloodline looking after what’s conceived to be his resting place, and warding off visitors to keep the pain of his confusion and tantrums away and try to allow Imaus to have some form, albeit imperfect, of rest.

—————————————————————

Preventative Measures:

  • Emotional Shielding: Practice mental grounding techniques. Imaus feeds on guilt, fear, and confusion.

  • Minimal Tech: Leave behind radios, cameras, and EMF-heavy gear unless absolutely necessary.

  • No Medical Items: Remove anything resembling medical tools or uniforms.

  • Team Briefing: Ensure all members know the entity’s catchphrase:

    “STOP! I’M NOT SICK, DOCTOR!”
Hearing this is a sign of proximity.

—————————————————————

Strategies:

Spectral Wolf

  • Remain calm and avoid eye contact

  • Do not run—movement triggers pursuit.

  • Use salt lines or iron objects to deter approach.

During an Encounter

  • Do not respond to his voice—especially if it mimics someone you know.

  • Avoid mirrors and recordings—they act as gateways.

  • Stay in groups—isolation increases hallucinations.

  • Use grounding phrases:

    “You are not alone, Imaus.”
    “We are not your doctors.”
These may temporarily confuse or pacify him.

Escape Protocol

  • Retrace your steps—Imaus manipulates spatial perception.

  • Avoid underground tunnels—they amplify his powers.

  • Do not look back—his presence intensifies when acknowledged.

—————————————————————

Abilities:

  • Delusion Field: Visitors begin to see themselves as asylum staff. Their companions appear as patients or orderlies.

  • Echo Possession: Imaus can possess sound itself—your voice may scream his catchphrase without warning.

  • Static Surge: Manipulates old electrical systems to shock or trap intruders.

  • Memory Bleed: Visitors experience vivid false memories of being part of the asylum’s staff.

  • Voice Mimicry: Uses familiar voices to disorient and isolate victims.
