Borrasca - “CreepyPasta” Review by Josh

BORRASCA:

This was another fantastic story I listened to that I couldn't “put it down”. This will trigger some people at the end, so VIEWER DISCRETION is advised. I wanted to put this out first so that everyone knows. I will go over spoiler free for the first part then like usual will put spoilers at the end and the thoughts I have.

This story is based in the former mining town of Drisking, Missouri. At age 12 Sam moves to this town and makes friends with two kids, Kyle and Kimber. There is a series of mysterious disappearances based around this tree in the woods called the Triple Tree. There is talk of something supernatural at play called the Skin Man.

Sam Walker – Main Protagonist

Kyle Landy- Best friend of Protagonist

Kimber Destaro – Best Friend of Protagonist

Whitney Walker- Sister of Protagonist

Jimmy Prescott

These are just some of the characters, there are a ton of them in the story.

SYNOPSIS:

The story starts off with our main character Sam Walker moving with his family to this small mining town. It seems to be a normal little town at first but with a rich history in mining and mystery. The town’s mines dried up and that’s why the town seemed to not be nearly as rich. Another issue that came from the town’s mining was infertility. You will see why that is important in the spoilers. The first mine was closed due to an accident that killed multiple kids.

One of the initiation ceremonies that had to be done when a new kid moves to the town is to carve their name on the Triple tree, or the skin man would “get you.” When Sam goes up to the tree there is 100s of names carved on it, to the point where there is almost no space to put his name. While Sam is carving his name, he hears a loud metal machine grinding in what they believe to be the mines, but they are not used anymore. When heading home he is informed that his sister Whitney disappeared without a trace. The Sheriff and his deputies seem to be doing little to nothing about her disappearance.

The next part of the story is when Sam is 10 years older but still is looking for his sister. Whenever he brings it up everyone seems to just say well “this happens all time in this town.” Curiosity drives Sam to ask the questions about the mines, skin man, and Borrasca. A big turning point for Sam was when Kimber’s mom just committed suicide, with no reason other than a letter that he couldn’t read. Thinking it was his or Kyle’s fault they asked Kimber’s dad what the letter said, which he immediately got angry and proceeded to say that her mom was selfish and basically deserved to die. While at the funeral for Kimber’s mom, Kimber disappears without a trace. They decided the mines must be where Kimber was taken.

 FIRST THOUGHTS:

The skin man is this entity out in the woods that preys on little kids. They go out to the tree to carve it and are taken. I was just curious what this skin man looked like, or why the tree had anything to do with if he preyed on you or not. Whitney disappeared because she did not put her name on the tree, which is what you had to do. The mines had to be where the creature was living, that was the only thing that made sense to me. If this monster did grab kids, why was it so normal to just write it off like oh well. What was that metallic crunching the kids were hearing in the night.

FINAL THOUGHTS:

This story was one of the darkest stories I have ever read. It was very well written, but once they go up to the mines, you can vividly understand what they are walking into. I found myself almost angry with what they found. I found myself just thinking about what I would have felt like if I had seen what they saw knowing they can’t do anything about it.

THE SPOILERS COULD TRIGGER SOMEONE ***

SPOILERS:

  • What is going on in this town?

    • The girls are kidnapped because of the infertility problem of the town.

  • Where are the girls taken?

    • To the mines where they are used as basically animals to bear children.

  • Who is behind the disappearances?

    • Most of the prominent characters of the town.

  • What is the metal grinding heard at the tree?

    • The girls being disposed of once they “fulfill” their purpose.

  • Where did the “skinned men” name come from?

    • The sign for the mine was so old and was rotting, so the only thing readable bore the words Skin Man.
