Backrooms officially hit wide release (May 29) — the viral analog horror phenomenon has made the jump to A24-backed feature film, bringing liminal dread to the mainstream. [screenrant.com]
Interesting to note, a lot of mixed feelings I was seeing online about the film either being slow to start, or not sticking the landing, but all of that is hard to believe due to the INSANE profit this film has made, in the hundreds of percent made back against its modest budget. I cant wait to see it…been too busy but making time soon.
Early June is loaded with releases, including:
Scary Movie (June 5) – the franchise revival is leaning hard into parodying modern horror trends and legacy sequels. [phantasmag.com]
Cape Fear (Apple TV reboot) – a darker, prestige take with Javier Bardem stepping into villain territory. [phantasmag.com]

This week was huge thanks to a major showcase event:
Midsummer Night’s Scream Horror Game Showcase (May 31 – June 1) dropped dozens of reveals and trailers. [youtube.com]
One standout:
Ghost Sector – a cybernetic survival horror title where you play as a machine trapped in a locked-down facility, blending resource management with classic dread. [youtube.com]
Coming off May’s already stacked lineup (which included Directive 8020 and several psychological indies), 2026 is shaping up to be a monster year for horror gaming, with AAA and indie titles both going all-in on atmosphere and storytelling. [keengamer.com]
